Cape Cod Healthcare Named One of America's Top Ten Systems
(Hyannis, May 31, 2011) Cape Cod Healthcare is pleased to announce that it has been named one of the top ten health care systems in America.
The study – the Thomson Reuters Top 10 Health Systems 2011 – was conducted by Thomson Reuters, one of the world’s leading health care information organizations. This annual, quantitative study is based solely on objective, quantitative performance data, independent research and public data sources. This year’s study examined 285 organizations – almost every U.S. health care system with two or more acute care member hospitals.
“It’s a tremendous accomplishment,” said Michael Lauf, CCHC’s President and CEO. “Our goal over the past three years has been to build one of the best health care systems in the United States. We are delighted that we are now recognized throughout the country as one of the top systems in the nation. Our physicians, nurses and other health care professionals work very hard every day to produce the highest levels of patient satisfaction and top-quality care. Through this award, their efforts will be noted and acclaimed from coast to coast.”
The study measures clinical quality and efficiency, using objective statistical analysis and publicly available data in categories such as patient complications and patient safety errors. Key performance measures include:
• Risk-adjusted mortality index
• Risk-adjusted complications index
• Risk-adjusted patient safety index
• Core measures mean percent
• 30-day risk-adjusted mortality rate
• 30-day risk-adjusted readmission rate
• Severity-adjusted average length of stay
• HCAHPS score (patient rating of overall hospital performance)
The Thomson Reuters Top 10 Health Systems 2011 are as follows, listed alphabetically:
• Advocate Health Care, Oak Brook, IL
• Cape Cod Healthcare, Hyannis, MA
• CareGroup Healthcare System, Boston, MA
• Kettering Health Network, Dayton, OH
• Maury Regional Healthcare System, Columbia, TN
• Mayo Foundation, Rochester, MN
• North Shore University Health System, Evanston, IL
• OhioHealth, Columbus, OH
• Partners HealthCare, Boston, MA
• Spectrum Health, Grand Rapids, MI
In summary, these winners of the Top 10 Health Systems awards:
• Saved more lives with fewer complications
• Followed industry-recommended standards of care more closely
• Made fewer patient safety errors
• Released patients half-a-day sooner
• Scored better on overall patient satisfaction surveys
The awards are reported in Modern Healthcare magazine, one of the nation’s most respected health journals.
“This recognition further substantiates our commitment to providing the best patient care possible,” added Mike Lauf. “It reflects a collaborative, team approach to quality and performance which defines Cape Cod Healthcare and its individual entities and is another reason for all residents and visitors to have peace of mind that world-class healthcare is available right here.”
Evening to Benefit Clark Cancer Center
(Falmouth, May 13, 2011) The Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation is pleased to announce a “Summer Evening at Beebe Woods” to benefit the Clark Cancer Center at Falmouth Hospital.
The event will be held on July 16 at historic Highfield Hall in Falmouth, with festivities beginning at 6 p.m.
The theme for the evening reflects the charm of a turn-of-the-century summer soiree.
“We hope to capture a sense of simpler times, when gathering with friends for good food and music was the highlight of the summer season,” said event co-chair Lisa Asendorf.
The evening will feature hors d’oeuvres and summer cocktails prepared by The Casual Gourmet, a silent and live auction featuring auctioneer John Terrio and dancing to the celebrated music of the Sultans of Swing.
The Clark Cancer Center opened in February and offers state-of-the-art radiation therapy services on the campus of Falmouth Hospital. The new center is a joint project of Cape Cod Healthcare Cancer Services and Shields Health Care Group.
The Center was made possible by an August 2008 gift of $10 million from James and Ruth Clark of Woods Hole and Palm Beach. The Falmouth Hospital Auxiliary also contributed $1 million to the project in October 2010.
Ticket prices for “Summer Evening at Beebe Woods” are $150 per person, with sponsorship opportunities available for individuals and businesses. For tickets or for more information, please contact Kira Pratt at 508-457-9700 or kpratt@capecodhealth.org
