Sad end to desperate search in Harwich

HARWICH - A search for a missing woman late Wednesday afternoon turned tragic when her body was found near Flax Pond. The 42-year-old victim had been missing since early Tuesday. A command post had been set up at the Family Pantry parking lot on Queen Anne Road under the direction of Fire Chief Norman Clarke, Jr. The victim was found using the triangulation of her cellular phone pings in the area. Harwich Police with a K-9 unit along with firefighters from Brewster, Orleans, Chatham helped in the search. An autopsy will be performed to see if the intense cold was a factor. It was about 16 degrees with windchill around zero. In lower photo, Mass. State Police from the District Attorney's office examine the body along with Harwich detectives.
