YPD, Independence House team for White Ribbon Day
YARMOUTH - At 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 7th, the Yarmouth Police Department and Independence House will host a media conference launching White Ribbon Day on Cape Cod as part of the 6th Annual Statewide Commonwealth of Massachusetts ‘White Ribbon Day’ Campaign.
The Yarmouth Police and Independence House are holding this event to create awareness among the males in our community about the issue of men's violence against women.
The White Ribbon Campaign was founded in 1991 by a group of men committed to ending men's violence against women through education, discussion, and action. The campaign was founded after fourteen female students were systematically targeted because of their gender and killed by a gunman at the University of Montreal.
Eighteen years later the initiative has grown into the largest effort in the world addressing gender violence. For more information on the international campaign visit: www.janedoe.org
The event will be hosted at the Cape Cod Irish Village on Route 28 in South Yarmouth generously provided at no cost by owner and community advocate Jack Hynes and his staff.
The general public and all media outlets are invited and encouraged to attend.
